Robotics;Notes Is Not Steins;Gate. So???

The only thing I find weirder than people trying to defend Robotics;Notes’ latest episode by comparing Aki’s situation to real life (no seriously) is people going “You people just wanted another Steins;Gate. Well guess what? Robotics;Notes is not Steins;Gate!” Granted this is not a new argument. It’s been said way before Episode 20 occurred, probably even before this thing started airing. And as we can see more than twenty weeks later, it refuses to die.

Well you know what I say to that argument? What fucking difference does that make?!

Whether or not I’m a fan of Steins;Gate, or 5pb in general, watching a show where characters I couldn’t care a lick about doing fuck all is not my idea of entertainment! And having a clusterfuck for a reward after fifteen episodes of pure boredom isn’t what I call fun either. Even if Steins;Gate didn’t exist, the fact remains that Robotics;Notes is not a good series. And there’s no way it can save itself from here because I didn’t like any of the last 20 episodes, and if more than 90% of an anime is shit, then it sucks! Okay, it could pull off a half-decent finale, but judging by what’s been happening in the last few episodes, I seriously doubt that.

Yes, you guys are right that the only reason I paid attention to this anime was because of 5pb. But that’s only because 5pb are like Key and Type-Moon when it comes to my anime-viewing habits: they’re visual novel companies whose anime adaptations I’m not the biggest fan of, but I’ll give them a try anyways because I have hope that one day they’ll release something I actually like. Steins;Gate made me more aware of the company, that’s for sure, but that’s all it did. I didn’t go into this anime expecting to like it. I even predicted I would dislike it more than Little Busters (and what a shock, that prediction came true). What I did hope for though is something that would justify why this particular VN got an anime adaptation. All it did was make me question whether the game was any good at all.

I don’t blame you guys for hyping yourself up just because of phenomenal previous source material, whether it be the original manga or the fact that the author of your favorite anime is writing this new work as well. I really don’t. After all, most of us were hyped up for that second season of Moyashimon because of how funny the first season was, right? And let’s not forget the hype for Durarara back in 2010. I’m currently hyped for the anime adaptation of Flower of Evil and seeing people’s reaction to it myself. I’ve got no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the fact that so many people are using that previous source material as their only fallback to either support or bash something. You can mention 5pb or Steins;Gate or Chaos;Head when you talk about R;N. I personally prefer to compare it to more obscure harder targets like that atrocious Moshidora anime, but that’s just me. Regardless, whilst it’s true we paid attention to R;N because of something we all loved, the fact remains that Robotics;Notes is a poor anime, hype or no hype. Nothing is going to change that.

Anyways, as for my own specific thoughts on the anime, I already stated my main problems with R;N in my Anime That Suck list, so I’m not going to bother repeating them. I guess I could make fun of the latest episode, but everyone’s already talked about that fucking bird, so I’m not going to bother. All I can say is that if I wanted a fun anime with a talking bird that is actually better than 90% of the cast, I’d watch Tamako Market.

  • Kind of liked how people actually took my MAL forum post seriously. Just goes to show how crap that site is.
  • No, I do not like the characters, nor care about their robot-building goals. Frau sucks, Aki sucks, Subaru (hey, I remember his name) sucks, Jun sucks, and Kai definitely sucks.
  • Why yes, I’m dying to hear why Moshidora is so good.

  1. I believe you should go smash your dick with a hammer perhaps that will help you feel better or I can kick you in the balls? just a thought.

  2. Seriously, I’m at the point when I’m enjoying Mondaji more than R;N…
How can you miss the point that much ?

  3. I finally got to watch this latest episode. I thought somebody was going to die for sure, seeing how they don’t hesitate to remove the shopkeeper lady, despite being sombody featured in the OP, also that tension, and fast paced music. Buuuut. The gun was snatched by a parrot in the last minute? That’s really a facepalm moment, lol.

      • Well, that’s not even the stupidest part of the episode.
Aki’s speech was the wrongest and stupidest part of not only this episode, but all the show. That’s attempt at characterization and evolution done wrong.
The poor girl is visibly broken, since her sister abandonned her. The only thing she have left are her dear robots. But instead of doing out of this phase, she sink further in depression and desilusion, ending with this stupid speech.
…And, somehow, not only does it works, but it’s supoosed to be a good thing. (The dumb final scene). I would have accept a speech about friendship, or even the basic “let’ssave the world”, or calling the big bad out, but here… I like robots as much as everyone, but this really irks me. Nadesico beat this show completely on this point, and you wasn’t expected to take it seriously.
…Seriously, how can you fall everything at this point without actively trying ?

      • Yeah, right, good robots always beat bad robots. Somebody please take this girl to psychiatrist. Also the rest of the characters. Because they went along with her wish. Rather than building a gundam to beat a spider robot,
why don’t they build a super railgun using the monopole? Because they have to stay to true to the anime’s theme? Oh, please…

At least there’s a good news. We only need to put up with faggotry for two more weeks. I thought it was 24 episode, but it turns out to be 22.

  4. Watching R;N on anime streaming sites, and all the comments are about how awesome is and I just getting bald cause I can’t understand why they would adore a parrot saving a girl and call the show serious at the same time… BULLSHIT, I just want to ask cause I have the doubt that if I was distracted or anything, but does anything makes sense? I don’t remember that they have explained the 90%, first they told me that a robot is impossible cause it weight and stuff and later you see their mecha fully functional, and flying robots and a lot of shit that they don’t bother to explain and they are just there… cause the author though it was cool, please tell me I am right, cause I have lost my mind between everyone saying is fucking detailed!!!!

    • The level of detail was definitely the weak link of this show. It spent too much time on stuff I didn’t care about, and then when things started to get serious, it failed to give the proper context when it should have. What a stupid waste of time this was.
